DVD and CD shelving

I built this DVD and CD shelf unit as part of my "grand plan" to sort out my study so I can install a workbench ready for next winter!

It is made out of 15mm melamine faced chipboard. I used my new biscuit jointer to line up the boards prior to glue up. (I made the top double width as it is a handy spot to drop keys and phones onto as I pop in and out of the house).

The unit is 98cm wide, 90cm high and 31cm deep.

Tool Storage Chest pt. 4

Here are some views of my completed Storage cupboard in its final position.
As you can see I have placed three power tools on the top. I just need to bolt these down.

It provides valuable storage space and although they took quite a lot of making, the draws are much more useful than shelves.

Here is a sample of my 144 hand cut dovetails!

Tool Storage Unit pt. 3

Here is the drawer stock prepared. the boards are made from tongued and grooved spruce flooring timber. I glued 2 boards together using the existing
T & G's them cut off the remaining tongue and filled the groove with this off cut. The boards were then planed to flatten them and cut to length.

I worked out the layout for the tails and made a card template so I could repeat this for all of the drawer sides. I marked up all of the waste areas to avoid cutting them out by accident! Note the "colored sticky dots" applied to the dovetail and pin sets. This is ensure they are kept together.

The tails were cut using David Barrons magnetic dovetail gauge and a Gyokucho 372 ’traditional’ dozuki saw. (Link to Davids tool page)

After the tails were cut, I used my dovetail alignment jig (based on David design) to set the tail board square to the pin boards (drawer fronts) and marked the pins with a marking knife.

On my way to cutting all 144 dovetails!

All 6 drawers assembled - now to cut housings for the 9mm ply drawer bottoms.
The drawers were fitted with roller runner slides. I am not sure if they will be strong enough, but time will tell.

Teak Box

Teak Box...

I made this small box from teak timber my father rescued from a farm straw elevator in the late 1940's and stored away in his garage.

Here is the link to the Fine woodworking website page that includes a .pdf plan to download. if you fancy trying to make one.
