Table saw stand

My table saw has lived in its box under the bench for a few years now. The main reason I haven't used it much is because I haven't really room for it in the garage when fitted onto it's stand. So I had an idea that if I mounted it onto some MDF with a wooden baton bolted underneath it, I could clamp it into the jaws of my B&D workmate and use that as the stand. I am pleased with the result. I can slip it off the workmate and lift it back under the bench but it is now easy to setup when I need it.

I had hoped to use it to rip down some planks that are 4" deep to create boards for boxes etc. the depth of cut of the saw in just under 3". Also the riving blade comes above the blade. So I cannot make blind cuts half way through the timber without removing the guard and riving blade, which I am reluctant to do. Any suggestions how I should plank up my 4" * 2" timber?
Bandsaws seem a possibility, but they also seem to wander a bit when ripping. All suggestions gratefully received.

New planes

Meet my two new best friends. These are my latest plane collection additions. The wooden one is an 8.5" David Barron 45 degree smoother. in Bubinga with a 1.5" Hock blade.
The other is a 1999 1-12-060 Stanley low angle block plane. I am really pleased with both of them. I can strongly recommend David Barrons planes, superb build and performance.

Old Re-Claimed timber.

Threshing set with Straw Elevator
I visited my Dad in Lincolnshire last week, he had some planks of green painted timber in his garage and it seems they were removed from a straw elevator (similar to the one in the right of the farming picture) in the early 1950’s as they were ‘worn out’!. I cut them into 7 pieces so they would fit in the car and brought them home. After planing the paint off, I see they are probably teak. Perhaps 80+ years old. I am a bit concerned about the fairly large splits in the grain, so it will be interesting to see how stable they are when I eventually start to band saw them. http://barrylowis.co.uk/

Draw knife and Axe

Dad gave me this draw knife he made many years ago in the forge. It is made from an old flat file. I had a play with it this afternoon and it is seriously sharp. I also bought this old Sandvik hand axe from the antique shop in Louth for £3. I think it will sharpen up pretty well. It feels very handy to use. I thought these old tools would come in useful if I pick up any old logs for messing about with, in the woods that surround us.
